Remember that your e-mail may arrive in my mail box surrounded by spam, so please review the following points:

• Use a detailed subject line, such as "Genealogy research at Milwaukee Public Library." E-mails with vague subjects like "Can you help me?" may unfortunately be overlooked among the many requests for assistance that I receive from the relatives of dead African leaders.
• Do not send attachments such as document or image files. After one of the computers in our household caught a virus that slipped past our anti-virus software, I now automatically delete oversized e-mails from strangers.
